Whether it’s creating planets by rolling up the world’s detritus (with the occasional screeching human and puzzled animal in tow) in Katamari Damacy , or using an LED controller to get naked while brushing your teeth in Tenya Wanya Teens , Takahashi’s games have always baffled and bemused me in equal measure. They also tend to make me laugh a lot. I lost count of the times I sat there chuckling to myself playing Katamari Damacy ReRoll last year, and I was hoping Wattam , his latest game about a lonely green cube called Mayor who’s in search of some friends, would put an equally big smile on my face. Winter may be here to stay for a bit but there’s some stray sunshine to be found in Wattam , the bright little puzzle game that will feel immediately familiar to anyone who played Katamari Damacy years ago on the PS2. Or, heck, last year’s re-release on the PC. Wattam has a similar fascination with things that would normally be inanimate objects like toilets, trees, and emoji-like piles of poo. UPDATE 11/11/19: Wattam finally arrives on 17th December, and pre-orders are now live on the Epic Games Store for PC. The link to pre-order on the PlayStation Store isn't yet live but, for either platform, it'll cut the price down by 15 per cent. ORIGINAL STORY 2: First announced nearly five years ago , the bizarre-looking Wattam finally has a release window - it'll arrive for PC (as an Epic Games store exclusive ) and PlayStation 4 this December. Developed by Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi, the game features a colourful blocky world where objects are alive (and have creepy-looking faces). Read more
