대학에서 장례지도과 학위를 마친 주인공은 리버필즈 영안실에서 수습 장의사로 취직해 몇 달 동안 매일 장의사를 보조하며 방부처리 과정을 익히면서 시신을 잘 처리하는 법을 배웁니다.
어느 밤늦은 시각, 갑자기 상사가 전화해 시신을 방부처리해달라고 일을 맡겨 주인공은 다시 출근합니다. 사신은 밤낮을 가리지 않으니까요. 그런데 이 시신들이 심상치 않고, 주인공도 상태가 어딘가 이상합니다. 그때 장의사에게서 전화가 걸려 옵니다. 소문은 사실이었고, 주인공은 영안실에서 나갈 수 없습니다.

Hey everyone! It's been a very busy time working on my next game and being on set for the filming of The Mortuary Assistant movie but I managed to get some time to fix a bug that was blocking progress. Fixed an issue with one of the bodies (blond woman with short hair) that would prevent the player from recording an identifying mark causing a soft lock in progress. Sorry it took so long to address this issue! I'm still one guy working on about 6 different things. I still want to give love and support to MA but I need to balance that time. 전반적으로 조작에 불필요한 동작이 많아 꽤 불편합니다. 비유하자면, 클릭 한 번이면 끝날 단순한 상호작용을 굳이 '열쇠를 줍고, 구멍에 꽂아, 돌려서 문을 여는' 상황처럼 지나치게 여러 단계로 쪼개 놓은 식입니다. 게다가 버그마저 잦은 편이라 플레이의 흐름이 매끄럽게 이어지지 않습니다. 물론 게임 자체의 매력적인 요소도 분명 존재하지만, 이처럼 번거로운 조작과 잦은 버그가
